Stardew Valley Dehydrator: Recipe, Five-Item Batches and Dried Fruit Value
Craft a Dehydrator, fix rejected fruit batches, and compare dried fruit value with selling higher-quality fruit unprocessed.

Research note: Checked November 8, 2026 against the references below. This is a source-researched guide, not an independently playtested walkthrough. Scope: 1.6 mechanics, unmodded gameplay.
Quick answer
Buy the Dehydrator recipe for 10,000g at Pierre's and craft it with 30 Wood, 2 Clay and 1 Fire Quartz. A batch needs five fruit or eligible mushrooms of the same type and quality. Grapes produce Raisins, Red Mushrooms are excluded, and Truffles are not eligible mushrooms. Dehydrator reference.

Sort stacks before loading the machine
If a Dehydrator refuses your fruit, check the count, type and quality together. Three normal berries and two silver berries are five items in total, but they are not a qualifying five-item stack. Do not mix different fruits to reach the quantity either.
The mushroom choice for the Farm Cave includes a Dehydrator in the referenced mechanics. Inspect what your save already provides before spending gold on a recipe solely to obtain your first working machine. Acquisition and batch rules.

Calculate Dried Fruit value from the base price
For ordinary Dried Fruit, the reference gives 7.5 times one fruit's base price, plus 25g per five-fruit batch. The dried output is normal quality. With Artisan, the reference's equivalent per-input-fruit expression is 2.1 times base price plus 7g. Dried Fruit pricing.
Consider an illustrative fruit with a 100g base price, without professions:
- Five normal fruit sold raw: 500g.
- One dried batch: 7.5 × 100 + 25 = 775g.
- Difference before machine costs: 275g per batch.
That comparison changes when the fruit could sell for more because of its quality or your professions. For a hypothetical iridium stack worth 200g per fruit, selling five raw would yield 1,000g, exceeding the same 775g dried batch. Always compare against the value of the actual stack, not only the normal-quality base price.
Leave time for collection
The machine reference describes a next-morning product. Build a routine around loading and collecting a test batch before estimating how many machines your harvest can supply. A quoted production schedule is not a measured result from this website's own save.
Which produce should you keep aside?
Reserve items you still need for bundles, gifts, cooking or replanting plans before processing surplus. This is a planning suggestion: there is no single best product for every farm, stage of progression or available machine space.
If your crop supply is still small, the Ancient Fruit seed-expansion guide helps separate growth plans from immediate sales. For fish rather than produce, use the Fish Smoker checklist.
Original quality comparison and batch calculator
Use the artisan batch profit calculator to compare the actual raw stack with the processed product. Enter your profession-adjusted prices instead of relying on the example values.
For the illustrative 100g-base fruit above, the 775g dried batch compares with five raw fruit as follows, with no professions or setup costs:
- Normal quality: 500g raw versus 775g dried; 275g extra per batch.
- Silver quality: 625g raw versus 775g dried; 150g extra.
- Gold quality: 750g raw versus 775g dried; only 25g extra.
- Iridium quality: 1,000g raw versus 775g dried; 225g less than selling raw.

Model result, not a gameplay measurement: These comparisons follow the cited sale formula and explicit example inputs. The displayed tool and arithmetic were tested; the results were not recorded from our own game save.
At a margin of just 25g per batch, recovering a hypothetical 10,000g setup investment takes 400 batches. Enter that investment in the calculator to reproduce the result. Add actual machine-material costs if you want to recover those too. This is a sale-margin calculation, not a recommendation to buy a recipe for every quality stack.
For an inventory of 27 matching fruit, five batches consume 25 and two remain. Our comparison sells those two leftovers raw on both sides, so they do not disappear from the calculation. With two identical machines, those five batches need three loading waves; that count does not promise a particular number of game days.
Ancient Fruit: one dried product consumes five fruit
For Ancient Fruit, the reference lists 4,150g per dried batch without Artisan and 5,810g with Artisan. Those are five-fruit batch values, not the value gained from one fruit. Use the equal-input Wine versus Dehydrator comparison before comparing a batch with a single bottle. Ancient Fruit price reference.
